Poor circulation in the legs may be the result of numerous health conditions, such as atherosclerosis or blood clots. The most simplest way to ensure that you have good circulation in your legs is to modify your daily diet intake to include specific vitamin supplements that work to help promote healthy circulation. Add nutritious foods that are rich in these substances. Alternative treatments should never replace conventional treatments. Talk to a health-care professional before changing your diet.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is an antioxidant substance, helping to protect your body from free radicals that may contribute to the development of health issues such as heart disease. Free radicals are unstable compounds that are created when your body converts food you consume into glucose for energy. Vitamin C is also important for the production of collagen, a protein that makes blood vessels, ligaments and muscles. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, vitamin C may be able to help treat atherosclerosis, which is the hardening of your arteries. Also, vitamin C may ensure that your arteries stay flexible. Sources of vitamin C include spinach, cranberries, winter squash, oranges, tomatoes and kiwi.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is also an antioxidant substance, acting as a defense against free radicals. Vitamin E is beneficial for helping promote good circulation in the legs, because it encourages blood flow throughout your body. Also, vitamin E is important for the production of red blood cell formation. Medline Plus says that vitamin E can be found in foods such as corn, vegetable oils, nuts, asparagus, wheat germ, spinach and olives.

Vitamin B-3

Vitamin B-3 or niacin is important for helping improve circulation, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center. Vitamin B-3 is also essential for assisting in the reduction process of high cholesterol in your blood. Sources of vitamin B-3 include peanuts, swordfish, beets, sunflower seeds, fish, beef liver, fish and brewer’s yeast.

Ginkgo Biloba

Ginkgo has been used for decades to improve circulatory disorders. The University of Maryland Medical Center says that ginkgo aids in the treatment of intermittent claudication, which is poor blood circulation in your legs. Individuals who suffer from this condition often have a difficult time walking and may experience extreme pain. Ginkgo helps improve blood flow in your legs and provides some pain relief. Ginkgo stimulates blood flow by dilating your blood vessels. Ginkgo can be taken as a dried leaf for treas or in a standardized extract. Speak with your doctor before taking ginkgo, because it may possibly interact with other medications.
